What it costs to run AI, and where the money leaks

An AI feature bills by the word, and most of the bill is repetition rather than work — the same instructions sent again with every message, finished steps carried forever, a whole toolbox read before each answer, and rush pricing for work that could have waited. Where the money goes, the one check worth running this week, and the number to judge an AI feature by.

Nothing is uploaded.

DG Reel Break gameplay: a neon brick wall above a glowing paddle on a wireframe floor
Launch storyApp of the Week

I grew up on Arkanoid. The new ones never felt the same, so we made one.

Handhelds, then a console, then the family computer — some version of Arkanoid was always within reach. Notarizing a Mac app: one error message, four separate bugs

One codesign error hid four unrelated problems: a throttled timestamp server, a crash in an unrelated log formatter, a debug flag that broke the output it was meant to explain, and a disk image I had notarized but never signed.
